Miami-Dade NOA for Metal Roof Panels: Contractor Checklist

Every metal roof panel on a permitted job in Miami-Dade County needs a product approval, and the Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance (NOA) is the document that carries it. Miami-Dade County says that all products that make up a building’s envelope, roofing included, must have an approval to be used in the county, and that the NOA is how that approval is conveyed to the building industry (Miami-Dade County). Miami-Dade and Broward make up Florida’s High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ). This checklist covers what to look for on a metal panel NOA before you order, and how to verify it.

Five things to check on a metal panel NOA before you order

  1. Who holds it. The NOA names the company it was issued to. Make sure it matches the company that supplies your panels, so the paperwork you submit matches the product on the roof.
  2. The expiration date. Each NOA lists when it expires. Check that it is current for your permit.
  3. The exact panel and material. Profile, gauge, and whether the panel is steel or aluminum.
  4. The deck type. Many approvals are written for a wood deck or a steel deck. Use the NOA that matches your roof.
  5. Design pressures and attachment. The NOA ties each design pressure to a clip spacing and fastener count, and it lists any other components it requires, such as the sealant.

How to verify an NOA

Search the NOA number in Miami-Dade County’s Product Control Search. The county’s record shows the approval holder, the approved product and the expiration date, and links to the full NOA document.

Why the attachment schedule matters for your bid

Two approvals for similar panels can call for very different clips at the roof’s edges and corners. Our REM 1.5 NOA (Miami-Dade County, Florida NOA 22-1208.01, exp. 04/13/2028) is rated to 153.5 psf at roof perimeters and corners with clips at 12 inches on center and 2 screws per clip. Our Series 1300 approval needs 6-inch clips with 4 screws per clip above 106.75 psf. Fewer, smaller clips mean less material and faster installs on high-pressure roof zones. The REM 1.5 approval also lets you use any Miami-Dade approved sealant on the panel leg, where the Series 1300 approval specifies Bostik 70-05A at those pressures.

Our REM 1.5 standing seam was tested by Intertek to 307 psf of wind uplift and carries a UL Class A fire and Class 4 impact rating (UL file R40985).
